The Best of Bizkaia Tour

Off the beaten track and must see

The Basque coast is full of stunning and dramatic sceneries and typical fishing villages that you would love to discover.

This is a proposal to check it with you and customized it to be a tailored tour.

The first place to discover, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, is a must see and now it has become very popular due to Game of Thrones’ Series 7 that was shot in this location . It´s an island cone shaped dedicated to John the Baptist and connected to mainland with a stone bridge with 241 steps that we will climb to admire the beauty of the coast.

On our way to Bermeo, we stop to enjoy the best view of Dragonstone. We will explore Bermeo, a typical and once important fishing village to know the history and traditions of the area.

These waters were navigated by pirates and were also the scene of some important naval battles in our history.

Our journey continues to Mundaka, a beautiful village worldwide known for the surfers for its “Left Wave”.

It´s amazing to watch the surfers riding the enormous waves from the charming village.

For lunch you can either chose to have lunch in a typical restaurant to enjoy the local gastronomy, mostly fish based and away from tourist traps or have some pintxos to have more time to enjoy the visit.

Following the coast, we arrive to the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai, where we will stop to enjoy the astonishing views of Laida and Laga Beaches.

We can stop at the Bird Center and take a walk along the marshlands.

If you were interested on doing some trekking to admire the views of the Urdaibai Natural Reserve ,  we propose an optional extension of 2 hours, to get to the top of the mountain. It´s an easy walk and the effort is worth it.

Or we can also discover  the Oma Forest, created by  the basque artist  Agustín Ibarrola in 1984.  This magic painted forest is also called  ” The Enchanted Forest”,  where the figures painted in the trees  change its shapes  as we move along the  place.

It´s an easy trekking path and optional that can take 2 hours.

Our last stop is also a must : Gernika, home to one of the oldest Parliaments in the world which is a symbol for the Basques, and also is the place to discover the history of our land.
