Join a Small Group to discover the Basque Country

Small by Design. Sustainable by Conviction. Hosted by People Who Call This Place Home.

Read what past travelers say — then decide

There’s a different way to travel — with a very small group, guided by locals on their own land.

For nine years, we — Ana & Iñaki — have been guiding small groups through the Basque Country’s coastlines, mountain villages, and family-run kitchens, starting from our farmhouse Ulle Gorri Baserria.

Both journeys share the same foundation: never more than six people, fully licensed electric van, the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, the Neskatillas of Bermeo, the medieval wine villages of Rioja Alavesa, the mountains of Gorbeia Natural Park, Bilbao, San Sebastián, and across the border into Iparralde (the French Basque Country): Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz.

Where they differ:

An 8-day journey for women only — a private pintxos (micro-gastronomy at its finest, served at the bar counter) workshop in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and an exclusive visit to the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, the fishing village where the master was born.

A 10-day journey open to all — a Txakoli (the Basque sparkling dry white wine) winery visit in Getaria, and deeper into the Navarrese Pyrenees: the medieval town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and the mountain pass of Roncesvalles on the Camino de Santiago.

Our trips run on relationships built over nearly a decade. Many of our collaborators are not tourism professionals. That’s exactly what keeps these encounters genuine.

We design each itinerary around the people in it — whether that’s a group of women looking for depth and connection, solo travelers, or couples and friends who want good company to discover the best of the Basque Country without the logistics.

Travelers´Reviews

Awesome experience guided by very knowledgeable and personable people! We were a group of 6 women meeting for the first time, and each of us agreed that we were very fortunate to visit the Basque Country with locals. We experienced traditions, home cooked meals and local wine. The itinerary was perfectly balanced. Do not hesitate to book!

Everyday we had different experiences/activities relating to food, traditions & culture. Ana & Inake were great hosts. I learned so much of the Basques & their love of life. I recommend them if you want to learn more of that culture

My experience with The Land of Basques was nothing short of extraordinary. Our wonderful hosts, Ana and Iñaki, thoughtfully curated an immersive and deeply enriching journey into Basque culture, traditions, and cuisine. Their warmth, graciousness, kindness, and genuine passion for their homeland made the experience truly special.

Although the weather was less than cooperative, Ana and Iñaki never missed a beat. With remarkable flexibility and creativity, they arranged alternative experiences that not only matched our original plans but, in many cases, exceeded our expectations. Their attention to detail and sincere desire to make every moment memorable were evident throughout our time together.

What truly sets Ana and Iñaki apart is their ability to make you feel less like a tourist and more like a welcomed guest, sharing in the richness of a culture they clearly love.

I cannot recommend The Land of Basques highly or enthusiastically enough. If you are seeking an authentic, personal, and unforgettable introduction to the Basque Country, look no further. My time with Ana and Iñaki was the highlight of my travels, and I am deeply grateful for the experience.
